A general psychologist studies emotional, cognitive and social processes, as well as human behavior, by observing and working with people to see how they relate to each other.

Work Environment

Psychologists often work in private practice, either on their own or with a group of other psychologists. Some also work for the government or a university.

How to Become

Psychologists need to have a PhD to practice independently, but can hold a master's degree if they work under the supervision of another psychologist.
